Nigeria's Minister Oyetola Advocates for Blue Economy Growth

Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine Blue Economy, called for stronger collaboration between the federal government, state governments, and the private sector to unlock Nigeria's blue economy potential.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Oyetola emphasized the need for effective implementation of Nigeria's national policy on marine blue economy, which aims to provide a strategic framework for managing the country's ocean and inland waterways. He noted that the success of this initiative depends on coordinated actions across various government levels.

The minister highlighted the importance of improving maritime safety and enhancing Nigeria's position as West Africa's preferred maritime hub, citing the World Bank's 2025 port performance index. He also mentioned ongoing plans to modernize ports and develop new deep-seaports in states like Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Cross River.

Oyetola's policy targets the creation of three million jobs within four years, with a focus on youth employment and sustainable investments in fisheries, aquaculture, and marine transport.
