Oyetola Advocates for Stronger Blue Economy Collaboration

On Thursday, during the second quarter 2026 citizen stakeholder engagement organized by the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola advocated for stronger collaboration between federal and state governments and the private sector to develop Nigeria's Blue Economy. He described the participation of sub-national governments as critical to unlocking the vast economic potential of the sector.

Oyetola emphasized that the success of the national policy on the Blue Economy depends on coordinated actions across various levels of government. He noted that Nigeria's marine assets are located within states and local communities, making state governments indispensable partners in attracting investments, creating jobs, strengthening food security, and promoting environmental sustainability.

The event brought together government officials, diplomats, development partners, industry leaders, and academic representatives to discuss mobilizing sub-national governments for effective implementation of the national policy.
