New 7-Point Agenda for Nigeria's Solid Minerals Sector

During the 2026 annual retreat in Abuja, Dr. Dele Alak, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, tasked agencies and personnel within the ministry to adopt a new 7-point agenda designed to elevate the solid minerals sector.

This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's mandate and emphasizes innovative thinking to achieve economic transformation, revenue diversification, youth empowerment, and improved transparency. Dr.

Alak highlighted the importance of institutional change and the human factor in implementing effective policies. He urged participants to draft the new agenda, which aims to increase the sector's contribution to Nigeria's GDP and attract higher-value investments.

The minister also stressed the need for public-private collaboration and community development agreements to ensure tangible benefits for host communities. He warned companies failing to comply with community development agreements of potential drastic measures, including title revocation.

Additionally, he proposed strengthening security measures to combat illegal mining activities.
