Minister Alak Unveils New 7-Point Agenda for Mining Sector

During the 2026 annual retreat in Abuja, Dr. Dele Alak, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, charged staff and agencies to develop a new seven-point agenda to elevate the solid minerals sector.

He stated that the current agenda would not be abandoned but would be built upon to achieve new goals. Alak emphasized the need for a mindset shift among personnel to ensure effective implementation of policies and programs.

He highlighted the importance of increasing the sector's contribution to Nigeria's GDP beyond mere revenue generation. Alak urged participants to focus on attracting and sustaining higher-value investments and to ensure that local communities benefit directly from mining activities.

He warned companies that fail to comply with Community Development Agreements (CDA) of potential drastic measures, including title revocation. The retreat also aimed to align the ministry's vision with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on enhancing sector security and operational capacity.
