Joseph Tegbe Launches Solar Mini-Grid in Kwara State

On September 24, Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe commissioned a 581 kWp Interconnected Solar Mini-Grid system with a 1.4 MW battery storage system in Oke-Oyi Community, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State. The mini-grid is designed to provide reliable power throughout the night, supporting the Federal Government's goal of universal energy access.

This initiative is part of the Interconnected Mini-Grid Acceleration Scheme (IMAS) and is supported by the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), with contributions from the European Union, the Federal Republic of Germany (through GIZ), and UNICEF. Tegbe emphasized the importance of international partnerships in funding and developing such projects.

The Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency noted the project's potential to attract private investment and enhance economic activity. Kwara State House of Assembly Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu praised the impact of the Federal Government's power reforms.

Tegbe urged the community to protect the mini-grid assets, declaring the project officially commissioned on behalf of the Federal Government.
