Federal Government Launches Solar Mini-Grid in Kwara

The Federal Government has commissioned a 581kWp interconnected solar mini-grid in Oke-Oyi, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State, which serves about 13,000 residents. Developed by Nayo Tropical Technologies Limited under the Rural Electrification Fund-Interconnected Mini-Grid Acceleration Scheme, the mini-grid has facilitated the establishment of 12 welding businesses, two pure water companies, four grain mills, four aluminium artisan businesses, an ice-block production business, and a cold-room/ice-fish depot.

The project includes 1,336 solar panels and 84 batteries, with around 10 kilometers of distribution cables and transformers. Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe, who commissioned the project, emphasized its role in improving lives and creating opportunities.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining electricity projects for ongoing community benefits. The Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abubakar Aliyu, noted the economic activities emerging in Oke-Oyi as evidence of the value of reliable electricity.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by Speaker Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, welcomed the project as vital for enterprise and community development.
