Nigeria's Federal Government Reaches Deal with Basl on MMA2

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo, announced a reconciliation agreement with Basl concerning the operation of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2). This agreement, reached during a Federal Executive Council meeting, resolves a 20-year dispute over concessions related to MMA2 and includes a commitment from Basl to complete a hotel and conference center within 24 months.

The government will also allow Basl to operate regional flight services from MMA2, which is expected to enhance the efficiency of airport operations. Keyamo disclosed that the federal government will write off Basl's debt of N132 billion, which includes interest, in exchange for relinquishing claims to the right of first refusal for future airport developments in Lagos State.

This settlement is seen as a significant step towards improving the aviation sector in Nigeria and establishing a more amicable relationship between the federal government and airport authorities.
