The appointment was confirmed shortly after midnight in Tehran, marking Mojtaba as the third Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic. The decision comes during a week-long war that has disrupted the global oil market, pushing crude prices above $100 per barrel.

The Assembly of Experts, consisting of 88 clerics, proceeded with the vote despite security threats. The Iranian military, specifically the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, has pledged allegiance to the new Supreme Leader.
