China Supports Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran's New Leader

China has backed Mojtaba Khamenei's appointment as Iran's supreme leader after the death of his father, Ali Khamenei. This decision comes in the context of heightened tensions following the recent killing of the former leader and subsequent military threats from Israel and the United States.

Guo Jiakun, a spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry, stated that Iran's decision to appoint the younger Khamenei aligns with its constitutional framework and reflects China's opposition to interference in the internal affairs of other countries. The statement emphasized the importance of respecting Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Additionally, Guo Jiakun addressed ongoing threats against the new leader from Israel and the U.S., highlighting Iran's potential retaliatory capabilities, including missile and drone attacks against Israel and its Gulf neighbors hosting U.S. forces.
