Peter Obi Critiques EFCC Report on Student Fraud

Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate, responded to a report from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) indicating that six out of every ten university students in Nigeria are engaged in internet fraud. Obi characterized this alarming trend as a significant moral and systemic failure, warning that Nigeria is facing a deep moral crisis.

He emphasized that the report reflects not only a crime issue but also a broader failure of values and leadership within the country. Obi highlighted the urgent need for reforms in universities and called for accountability in governance to restore public trust.

He noted that approximately 2.2 to 2.5 million university students are confronting serious challenges, which he linked to the weakening of societal values. Obi insisted on the necessity to rebuild integrity in public life and to create an environment that rewards honesty and hard work.
