Nigerian Airlines Cut Flights Amid Jet Fuel Crisis

Nigerian airlines are facing a severe jet fuel crisis, prompting significant operational changes. Rano Air has decided to reduce its flight frequency by 50%, while Max Air is also canceling several flights.

The crisis has led to adjustments in operations across the sector, with airlines scaling down services to cope with the high cost and instability of jet fuel prices. The National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), led by Captain Bunmi Gindeh, has issued warnings about the safety implications of prolonged flight delays and increased crew fatigue due to fuel shortages.

The association is urging the federal government, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to address the supply disruptions urgently. The ongoing crisis is expected to have economic repercussions, affecting airline operations and staff welfare.
