MURIC Slams US Over Shariah Law Comments in Nigeria

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) criticized the US for demanding the abrogation of Shariah law in Nigeria and threatening sanctions against 12 Northern governors. MURIC's Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, rejected the US calls, stating that Shariah was introduced through due legislative processes in Nigeria.

He emphasized that foreign interference in Nigeria's legal system would violate international law and democratic principles. MURIC denounced the threats issued to the Northern governors, asserting that Shariah was implemented democratically and in line with global standards.
