African Leaders Urged to Resist Foreign Dictatorship at Murtala Muhammed 50th Anniversary Workshop

The Murtala Muhammed 50th Anniversary Policy Workshop held in Nigeria urged African leaders to resist foreign dictatorship and protect sovereign autonomy to avoid perpetual dependence. The workshop, jointly organized by the Murtala Muhammed Foundation (MMF) and the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), commemorated the 50th anniversary of the assassination of General Murtala Muhammed, Nigeria's former head of state.

Speakers like Dr. Eghosa Osagha and Dr. Aisha Muham Oyebod highlighted the importance of Africa reclaiming its global stage and self-reliance. Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi emphasized the need for Africa to critically examine its political maturity, economic resilience, and institutional strength to assert its independence.

Prof. Hassan Saliu stressed the urgency for African leaders to defend Africa's destiny and uphold sovereignty, unity, and freedom as envisioned by General Murtala Muhammed in his historic speech at the OAU summit in Addis Ababa nearly five decades ago.
