Workshop Commemorating Murtala Muhammed's 50th Anniversary Urges African Leaders to Resist Foreign Dictatorship

The workshop held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs marked the 50th anniversary of the assassination of former Nigerian Head of State, Murtala Muhammed. Speakers like Dr. Eghosa Osagha and Dr. Aisha Muham Oyebode highlighted Muhammed's pan-African vision and his commitment to elevating Nigeria's and Africa's status globally.

Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi emphasized the importance of honest self-assessment for Africa in navigating the evolving global order. The event also addressed Africa's leadership deficit and the urgency for self-reliance and courageous leadership.

Prof. Hassan Saliu, President of the Nigerian Political Science Association, stressed the need for African nations to fulfill Muhammed's vision of sovereignty, defense, unity, and freedom as articulated in his historic speech in Addis Ababa. The workshop aimed to inspire young Africans to embrace careers in diplomacy and international development to address the continent's challenges.
