Museum of West African Art Clarifies Role in Benin City's Cultural Scene

The Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) released a statement addressing misconceptions about its role in Benin City's cultural scene, particularly regarding the Benin Bronzes. MOWAA clarified that it does not claim ownership of the Benin Bronzes but aims to showcase historical works without displacing Benin heritage.

The museum highlighted its commitment to fostering understanding, goodwill, and collaboration in the cultural sector. Phillip Ihenacho, the director of MOWAA, expressed pride in the institution's achievements and emphasized the importance of telling African stories on its own terms.
