Yoruba Muslims Support Sultan on Ramadan Moon Sighting

The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has publicly backed Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, in a statement reaffirming his authority on the moon sighting for Ramadan. This support comes amid rising concerns over unauthorized declarations regarding the commencement date of Ramadan in 2026.

MUSWEN, led by President Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo and Executive Secretary Professor Wole Abba, emphasized the importance of adhering to established processes for moon sighting as directed by the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA). They warned that any disregard for these processes poses a threat to the unity of the Muslim community.

The statement urged Muslims across South West Nigeria to remain steadfast and ignore conflicting announcements that lack support from the national moon sighting committee. MUSWEN highlighted the need for harmony during Ramadan and referenced Surah Al-Imran from the Holy Quran, calling for unity among Muslims to avoid division.
