NPF-NCCC Arrests Aliyu Mohammed for N5.7m Cyber Fraud

The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) arrested 27-year-old Aliyu Mohammed in connection with a cyber fraud case involving N5.7 million. According to a statement from DSP Unwana Imah, the suspect was apprehended following a complaint from a lecturer based in Akwa Ibom, whose identity was withheld.

The lecturer alleged that in March 2026, they responded to an advertisement for household items displayed on a Facebook declutter page named "shophouseholditem." The seller allegedly persuaded the lecturer to make a total payment of N5.7 million for the items, which were never delivered. After the payment, the lecturer was blocked from further communication on the Facebook page, leading to the abandonment of the transaction.

Upon receiving the complaint, the NPF-NCCC deployed technical assets in collaboration with Meta Inc. to identify the owner of the fraudulent account. The suspect was traced to Katsina State.

The investigation is ongoing, and Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to combat cybercrime and protect citizens from online fraudsters.
