NADDC to Launch Automotive Park in Nnewi, Anambra State

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) announced plans to establish a major automotive development park in Nnewi, Anambra State, aimed at reducing Nigeria's dependence on imported vehicles. Director General Oluwemimo Osanipin disclosed this initiative on Tuesday in Abuja, highlighting it as part of President Bola Tinubu's KEI initiative, which focuses on accelerating local vehicle production.

The proposed Nnewi Automotive Development Park will provide shared infrastructure facilities for manufacturers, lowering entry barriers for investors. Osanipin emphasized the importance of public-private collaboration for the project's success, which is designed to transform Nnewi into Nigeria's automotive hub.

The park aims to address challenges such as fragmented production and high operational costs. The NADDC also plans to encourage local vehicle assembly and has received federal government approval for the procurement of electric vehicles from local assemblers.

The council is working on a legislative framework to strengthen its operations and align with global best practices in the automotive industry.
