NADF Launches Ginger Recovery Program to Boost Industry

The Nigerian Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) launched the Ginger Value Chain Recovery and Sustainability Program (GVCRSP) to revitalize Nigeria's ginger industry, which has been severely affected by a ginger blight epidemic. The program was unveiled at the National Root Crop Research Institute (NRCRI) in Umudik, Abia State, and aims to bring together government officials, research partners, commodity associations, and private sector stakeholders to develop strategies for restoring and transforming the country's ginger value chain.

Mohan Ibrahim, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of NADF, and Ernest Ihedigbo, the General Manager of Technical Services, emphasized the program's significance in advancing the federal government's agricultural transformation agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration. The initiative will provide six metric tons of ginger rhizomes and critical infrastructure support, including disease-free seed multiplication and tissue culture propagation.

Approximately 6,000 farmers in Kaduna, Plateau, and the Federal Capital Territory will receive improved seed and integrated pest management support to restore their livelihoods.
