NADF and NRCRI Launch Program to Revive Ginger Industry

The Nigerian Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) and the National Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI) unveiled a program on Friday, aimed at reviving Nigeria's ginger industry, which has been devastated by a ginger blight epidemic. The program was launched at the NRCRI headquarters in Umudik, Abia State, and is part of a broader effort to restore the ginger value chain and support farmers affected by the epidemic.

Mohan Ibrahim, the Executive Secretary of NADF, and Ernest Ihedigbo, the General Manager of Technical Services, emphasized the initiative's significance in demonstrating the federal government's commitment to agriculture as a driver of economic diversification and food security. The program will provide six metric tons of ginger rhizomes and infrastructure support to farmers in Kaduna, Plateau, and the Federal Capital Territory.

Additionally, it includes investments in agricultural research institutions and modern laboratory facilities to enhance research capabilities and promote demand-driven agricultural technology.
