NAFDAC Destroys N2bn Worth of Counterfeit Drugs in Kaduna

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) conducted an operation in Kaduna, destroying counterfeit pharmaceutical products valued at N2 billion. The exercise, which took place at the Gonin Gora dumpsite, involved the destruction of 503 cartons of fake pregabalin capsules, intercepted before entering the Nigerian market.

Martin Iluyomad, Director of Investigations and Enforcement at NAFDAC, stated that the agency is committed to tackling the circulation of fake and substandard drugs. The counterfeit pregabalin capsules were falsely presented as registered medicines approved by NAFDAC.

Iluyomad emphasized that counterfeit drugs pose significant health risks, and NAFDAC has a zero-tolerance policy towards such products. The operation was part of a broader effort involving intelligence sharing and collaboration with the National Security Adviser and Nigeria Customs Service to combat drug smuggling.

NAFDAC has intensified enforcement operations across the country to ensure compliance with safety standards in the pharmaceutical sector.
