NAFDAC Dismantles Fake Alcohol Syndicates in Lagos

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has successfully dismantled two illegal product outlets involved in the distribution of counterfeit and adulterated alcoholic beverages in Lagos State. This operation was conducted based on credible intelligence and involved a raid at the Zamfara Plaza Trade Fair Complex on Lagos Island.

During the operation, NAFDAC recovered 1,800 cartons of counterfeit and adulterated alcohol products, with an estimated value of approximately 350 million naira. The agency discovered makeshift setups used for producing these illicit products, including equipment such as plastic mixing tanks and improvised filtration systems, along with empty brand bottles and packaging materials used for counterfeit alcoholic drinks.

NAFDAC has arrested suspects linked to the distribution of these illegal products to retail outlets. The agency has issued a warning to the public about the serious health risks posed by consuming adulterated alcoholic beverages, which can lead to poisoning, organ damage, and even death.
