NAFDAC Refutes Suspension Claims, Maintains Ban on Sachet Alcohol Below 200ml

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has refuted claims of suspension and reiterated the ban on sachet alcohol below 200ml. Prof.

Mojisola Adeyeye, the Director-General of NAFDAC, clarified that the agency is strictly operating within its statutory mandate and has not received any directive to suspend enforcement activities. NAFDAC began enforcing the ban on alcohol sold in sachet and pet bottles smaller than 200ml on February 1, 2024, with an extension until December 31, 2025.

The move aims to address health risks, combat alcohol abuse, and protect vulnerable groups, especially minors. Adeyeye highlighted the importance of regulatory compliance and transparency in implementing government policies.

NAFDAC emphasized that the temporary lift of the ban is valid until December 31, 2025, not permanently reversed, as part of its phased approach to regulating alcohol products for public health objectives.
