NAFDAC to Enforce Ban on Sachet Alcohol Sales by December 2025

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is resolute in enforcing the ban on the sale of alcohol in sachets and small bottles below 200ml by December 2025, aligning with its mandate to safeguard public health. This decision follows a recent directive from the Senate, emphasizing the need to address the easy access and abuse of cheap alcohol products.

NAFDAC Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, highlights the link between these products and social vices, including increased domestic violence and road accidents.

The ban, initially agreed upon in a memorandum signed in December 2018, aims to combat the proliferation of high-alcohol content beverages that pose risks to vulnerable groups, such as children and adolescents. Manufacturers, distributors, and retailers are urged to comply with the deadline to avoid penalties.
