NAHCON Chairman Resigns Amid Allegations of Misconduct and Financial Irregularities

The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) resigned after a petition was submitted to the board by staff members accusing him of abuse of office. The petition alleged financial indiscipline, lack of transparency, and unauthorized expenditures.

The Chairman was also accused of violating procurement laws and compromising the commission's financial and legal reputation. The resignation followed a call by President Bola Tinubu for his removal.

The board had earlier voted "no confidence" in the Chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Usman, citing leadership failures.

The allegations included awarding contracts without due process and exceeding budget limits. The Chairman's actions were said to pose a significant risk to the commission's credibility and stability.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is reportedly investigating the Chairman for economic and financial crimes. A replacement for the Chairman is expected to be announced soon.
