SERAP Demands Transparency in $460M Abuja CCTV Project

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on the Nigerian government to reveal the identities of local contractors and subcontractors involved in the $460 million Abuja CCTV project. This request follows a Federal High Court order issued in May 2023, which mandated the disclosure of details concerning the project, including the total amount paid and the names of contractors.

SERAP's Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, stated that the absence of this information raises serious concerns about transparency and accountability in public spending. The Federal Ministry of Finance, represented by Taiwo Oyeleke, has been urged to comply fully with the court's judgment.

SERAP noted that approximately 6,000 items remain unaccounted for in the project, which was financed through a Chinese loan. The organization emphasized the need for full compliance with the court's ruling to uphold the rule of law and public accountability, especially given Nigeria's ongoing security challenges.
