Reps Direct CBN to Halt $460M Abuja CCTV Funding

The House of Representatives has instructed the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to suspend further funding for a $460 million CCTV project in Abuja, which was awarded to ZTE Corporation. An ad hoc committee expressed dissatisfaction with the project's management, citing allegations of inconsistencies and a lack of transparency from ZTE officials regarding the project's scope and operational status.

The committee has requested that ZTE reappear to provide comprehensive and verifiable information addressing concerns raised, including an inventory of equipment supplied and the precise locations of installations. The project, which was completed between 2011 and 2012, has raised questions about its current functionality.

Chairman of the panel, Donald Ojogo, clarified that the committee's engagement is not a witch hunt but a pursuit of clear answers for Nigerians. Iren Momoh represents ZTE in the discussions.
