NANS Aspirant Olamilekan Alex Critiques Student Politicization

Olamilekan Alex, a presidential aspirant for the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), expressed concerns regarding the increasing politicization of the student movement in Nigeria. He warned that the manipulation of the electoral system threatens the legitimacy of governance and undermines the interests of the people.

Alex, a student at Lagos State University, made these remarks on Sunday shortly after submitting his interest form ahead of the NANS national convention scheduled for May 24 in Abuja. He emphasized the necessity for NANS to return to its historical role as a vibrant independent voice for Nigerian students, rather than becoming an appendage of political power.

Alex called for nationwide unity among students to resist policies that exacerbate hardship and deepen inequality. He pledged to provide courageous and principled leadership if elected, aiming to restore NANS's respect as an independent advocacy platform.

The upcoming convention will test the association's internal democracy and its ability to reclaim its watchdog role over the government.
