NANS Opposes Bill to Arm FRSC Officers Amid Rising Highway Insecurity

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has vehemently opposed a bill aiming to arm Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnel, citing safety concerns. The NANS National Vice President of Gender Affairs, Comrade Sileola Akinbodunse, highlighted the escalating security challenges on Nigerian highways, including banditry and kidnapping.

NANS argues that arming FRSC officers could endanger commuters further, emphasizing the agency's existing struggles with basic duties like license issuance. The organization stresses the need for FRSC to focus on its core mandate of ensuring road safety, especially in light of increasing accidents and systemic failures.

NANS was founded in 1988 to promote road safety and prevent accidents, urging the government to address the root causes of road insecurity.
