NANTA Criticizes Foreign Airlines for Dollar Ticket Sales

Yinka Folami, the President of the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agents (NANTA), expressed strong disapproval of foreign airlines selling tickets in dollars during a press conference held in conjunction with the association's annual general meeting celebrating its golden jubilee. Folami accused these airlines of showing disrespect to Nigeria and insisted that dollar-denominated ticket sales undermine the country's sovereignty and weaken the naira.

He highlighted the broader challenges faced by travel agents, particularly the ripple effects of the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, which has led to a decline in patronage and increased financial strain due to refund demands. Folami emphasized that NANTA's advocacy efforts aim to protect the interests of its members and ensure fair market practices, including a campaign against cross-border ticket sales.

He reiterated the importance of engaging with industry stakeholders and government authorities to address these issues and adjust policies accordingly.
