NAPTIP Rescues 17 Trafficking Victims in Anambra Raid

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) conducted a successful operation in Anambra, rescuing 17 victims of human trafficking and apprehending four suspects. The raid, supported by military personnel, targeted a popular hotel in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Among the rescued victims, four tested positive for HIV and are receiving medical and psychological support. The victims, mostly recruited from states like Benue, Imo, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom, were allegedly forced into prostitution with daily earnings of N20,000 to N25,000.

The victims reported being exploited by their handlers, who confiscated their medication and subjected them to physical abuse. NAPTIP's Director-General, Binta Adamu Bello, expressed concern for the victims' health and condemned the actions of the alleged handlers.

The agency vowed to intensify efforts to dismantle trafficking networks and warned traffickers of stricter enforcement measures.
