NARD Confirms Start of CONMESS Arrears Payments for Doctors

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) announced the commencement of payments for long-awaited CONMESS arrears, which arise from the review of the consolidated medical salary structure. Abdulmajid Ibrahim, the social secretary of NARD, confirmed that the disbursement process is already underway and covers outstanding arrears for six months.

Affected doctors have reportedly begun to acknowledge receipt of payments. Ibrahim assured members who have not yet received payments that the process is ongoing and will conclude in due course, urging patience.

However, he noted that the August component of the arrears is currently experiencing minor administrative delays, which may extend the payment timeline by two weeks. The payment of these arrears is seen as a positive step by the authorities to address long-standing welfare concerns and reduce the risk of potential labor disputes in the health sector.

NARD has expressed concerns regarding the welfare challenges faced by doctors, including salary delays and working conditions, amidst a significant outflow of medical professionals seeking better opportunities abroad.
