NARD Sets August 10 Deadline for Federal Government

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has issued a deadline of August 10, 2026, to the Federal Government to resolve longstanding welfare and labor issues, threatening a nationwide industrial strike if demands are unmet. This decision was made during the association's National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Gombe State from July 26 to July 31.

The strike is set to commence at 8:00 a.m. on August 10 if the government fails to address issues such as outstanding salary arrears, allowances, and improved working conditions. The communiqué was signed by NARD President Dr Mohammad Usman Suleiman, Secretary-General Dr Shuaibu Ibrahim, and Publicity and Social Secretary Dr Abdulmajid Yahya Ibrahim.

The NEC condemned the harassment of doctors and called for legislation to protect healthcare workers. NARD also urged the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to expedite the implementation of recommendations regarding excessive workloads and other welfare challenges affecting house officers.

Additionally, unresolved issues at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) must be addressed to avoid triggering industrial action.
