NASS Approves N1.504 Trillion Army Budget for 2026

The National Assembly (NASS) has approved a budget of N1.504 trillion for the Nigerian Army for the year 2026. This decision was announced by Abdulaziz Yar Adua, the chairman of the Senate Committee on the Army, during a joint budget defense session involving both the Senate and the House of Representatives in Abuja.

The session featured the Chief of Army Staff, who presented the budget. While members expressed satisfaction with Yar Adua's leadership, they noted that delays in the release of appropriated funds remain a significant concern affecting the Army and other ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

Members of the joint committee agreed on the importance of timely fund release to enable the Army to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities effectively. Aminu Balel, the chairman of the House Committee on the Army, commended the Chief of Army Staff and pledged continued advocacy for prompt fund release.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abba, also committed to supporting legislative efforts to ensure timely funding.
