NASS Approves N1.50tn Budget for Nigerian Army 2026

The National Assembly (NASS) has approved a N1.50 trillion budget for the Nigerian Army for the 2026 fiscal year, committing to timely fund releases to support military operations. This approval followed a joint budget defense session held in Abuja, where the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.

Gen. Waidi Shaibu, presented detailed expenditure proposals.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Abdulaziz Yar Adua, expressed satisfaction with the Army's presentation and reaffirmed legislative support for the military's constitutional responsibilities. Concerns were raised regarding delays in fund releases, which have historically affected the operations of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

Aminu Balel, Chairman of the House Committee on Army, commended the Chief of Army Staff and his personnel for their sacrifices in safeguarding the country, pledging to sustain legislative pressure to ensure prompt fund releases. The budget allocation comes amid calls for increased investment in Nigeria's security architecture as the country continues to combat insurgency, banditry, and violent crime.
