Nigerian Lawmakers to Probe $18bn Refinery Repairs Mismanagement

The Nigerian House of Representatives has resolved to investigate the reported $18 billion spent on rehabilitating Nigeria's non-functional state-owned refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna. Despite significant investments, the refineries remain non-operational, raising concerns about fiscal discipline and transparency.

An ad hoc committee will probe the funds disbursed for rehabilitation between 2010 and 2024, evaluate fund utilization, identify mismanagement, and recommend measures to safeguard future investments. This move comes after previous probes yielded no results, indicating a deep-rooted issue of corruption in the country's oil and gas sector.
