Natasha Akpoti Demands Probe into Attack on Obi, Oyegun

Senator Natasha Akpoti from Kogi Central has demanded a thorough investigation into an alleged attack on former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former National Chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, which she described as deeply disturbing. In a statement issued on Wednesday, Akpoti expressed concern over rising political hostility, warning that such incidents pose a serious threat to Nigeria's democratic stability.

The senator condemned the reported assassination attempt and highlighted the need for security agencies to ensure accountability. She stressed that violence and intimidation should not define Nigeria's democratic space and called for healthy political competition that respects dissenting voices.

Akpoti's remarks come amid heightened political tensions and concerns for the safety of opposition figures across party lines. The attack reportedly involved suspected thugs in Benin, Edo State, during political activities surrounding the formal declaration of Olumid Akpata's party.

Dr. Yunusa Tanko, Obi's former campaign spokesman, raised alarms about the incident, which included images of damaged vehicles at Odigie-Oyegun's residence.
