Ex-lawmaker Enang: National Assembly Not Involved in Ending Rivers Emergency Rule

Former lawmaker Enang clarified in a telephone interview with The Guardian that the National Assembly has no role in ending the emergency rule in Rivers State. Enang emphasized that the legislature had fulfilled its constitutional duty by approving the emergency proclamation declared by the President for six months in March.

He noted that the expiration of the proclamation would not be affected by the National Assembly's recess. Enang, who represented Akwa Ibom Senatorial District from 2011 to 2015, highlighted that the presence of the National Assembly during the recess is irrelevant to the expiration of the emergency rule in Rivers State.
