Nationwide Blackout in Nigeria as National Grid Collapses, Leaving Major Areas Without Power

The collapse of Nigeria's national grid on Monday led to a nationwide blackout, with power generation plummeting from 2,052.37 megawatts to just 139.92 megawatts within hours. This disruption affected the distribution of power across the country, with 11 out of 14 electricity distribution companies unable to receive electricity during the collapse.

The incident highlighted the fragility of Nigeria's power system, as the grid failed to provide sufficient electricity for homes, businesses, and essential services. The blackout occurred shortly after the government announced a rise in national power generation to 6,000MW, which quickly fell below 1,000MW during the disturbance.
