Nigerian Navy Seizes 22,870 Liters of Illegal Diesel

The Nigerian Navy has intensified its efforts to curb crude oil theft and illegal refining activities in the Niger Delta, recovering approximately 22,870 liters of suspected illegally refined automotive gas oil (AGO) in River State. This operation, part of a broader initiative to protect Nigeria's oil revenue and energy infrastructure valued at N39 million, was conducted by the Delta Sentinel, a security intervention team.

The Nigerian Navy ship NN Soroh acted on intelligence reports to intercept a wooden boat transporting 36 sacks of suspected illegal diesel in the Orashi Forest area of Abua Odual Local Government Area. Following further aerial surveillance and ground searches, an additional 45 sacks of product were discovered concealed in a pond, bringing the total recovery to 81 sacks.

Captain Abiodun Folorunsho stated that these operations are crucial in tackling the growing issue of crude oil theft, which undermines government earnings and the legitimacy of the oil and gas sector. Vice Admiral Idi Abba, Chief of Naval Staff, reaffirmed the Navy's commitment to dismantling criminal networks involved in oil theft.
