Nigerian Navy Dismantles Illegal Oil Depot in Rivers State

The Nigerian Navy conducted an operation in Rivers State, specifically in Okrika, where they uncovered and dismantled an illegal refined petroleum products depot. During the raid, naval personnel discovered a warehouse located around Okochiri Kingdom containing 410 drums loaded with approximately 123,000 liters of suspected illegally refined automotive gas oil (AGO).

This operation was part of the Navy's Delta Sentinel initiative, aimed at combating crude oil theft and illicit petroleum activities in the Niger Delta. Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Director of Naval Information, stated that preliminary investigations indicated the products were transported from illegal refining sites outside the community for onward distribution through illicit supply channels.

The discovery highlights a growing trend in illegal petroleum operations that attempt to evade ongoing anti-crude oil theft operations. The Nigerian Navy remains committed to dismantling the logistics and supply networks that sustain crude oil theft and illegal refining activities in the region.
