NBA Condemns Arrest of Ex-Presidential Aide Obono-Obla

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has condemned the arrest of Okoi Obono-Obla, a former presidential aide, who was apprehended by police on February 19, 2026, at 12:00 noon along Abuja Park in Ugep, Cross River State. He faces charges related to forgery and obtaining admission into the legal profession under false pretenses.

NBA's Calabar branch chairman, Enom Amatei, expressed concerns over the circumstances surrounding Obono-Obla's arrest, stating that the association had not yet received official information regarding the incident. Amatei emphasized the importance of ensuring that due process is followed and that Obono-Obla should not be detained beyond the constitutionally permitted period without proper legal justification.

He assured that the NBA would seek a full briefing on the incident and take necessary actions through its human rights committee.
