NBA Akure Branch Calls for Courtroom Improvements

The Nigeria Bar Association, Akure Branch, under the leadership of Chairman Oju Kekemeke, has expressed significant concerns regarding the poor state of courtroom facilities and systemic challenges affecting legal practice in Ondo State. In his inaugural address titled “The Hour of Duty Has Clocked,” Kekemeke criticized the electronic filing system, which was intended to streamline court processes but has instead added burdens for lawyers.

He emphasized the need for improvements in electronic filing, case management, and the introduction of electronic recording of court proceedings to alleviate the workload on judges. Kekemeke acknowledged the Ondo State Government's efforts in constructing a new High Court complex but urged for better conditions in existing courtrooms.

He also highlighted issues such as delays in processing Certificates of Occupancy, exploitative practices at court and police registries, and the implementation of the lawyers’ remuneration order. The branch plans to engage stakeholders to address these challenges and improve members' welfare through sustainable structures and the NBA Akure Cooperative Society.
