Ugo Udezue Endorses Abdullahi for NBBF Presidency

Ugo Udezue, a former Nigeria international basketball player and sports executive, has endorsed Dr Mustapha Abdullahi for the presidency of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF). Udezue argues that Nigerian basketball requires stronger commercial structures, infrastructure, and professional management to capitalize on its talent.

He emphasizes that Nigeria's population and sporting pedigree position it to become a significant force in African basketball, particularly with the expansion of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), which has generated over $250 million in GDP contributions since 2021. Udezue suggests that the next NBBF administration should focus on infrastructure, governance, commercial development, and private investment, proposing the creation of multi-purpose arenas across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.

He also calls for transparency in governance, including clear statutes and audited accounts, to attract investors. Udezue advocates for a national digital database for players, coaches, referees, and clubs, highlighting the importance of data in attracting sponsorship and investment.
