NCC Enhances Network Security to Boost Digital Economy
The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has reiterated its commitment to strengthening network security and integrity within Nigeria's telecommunications ecosystem to boost the digital economy. This was stated in a communique following the NCC's 110th board meeting held in Abuja.
The board, led by Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Aminu Maida, reviewed updates on strategic priorities and operational performance. The Device Management System (DMS) is now operational, enhancing compliance and deterring mobile device theft.
The Telecommunications Identity Risk Management System (TIRMS) is set to launch in October 2026, aiming to improve governance of telecommunications identities. The NCC reported that 8,526 out of 12,179 planned coverage sites have been deployed, reflecting significant progress.
Additionally, the board discussed initiatives for zero-rating educational platforms, with a launch scheduled for October 1, 2026, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education and other stakeholders.
