NCDC Implements Health Declarations for Ebola Travelers

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) announced that travelers arriving from countries with active Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) transmission may be required to complete Health Declaration Forms at points of entry. This interim public health advisory was issued on Tuesday to strengthen surveillance and prevent the importation of Ebola into Nigeria.

Currently, passengers from all other countries are exempt from this requirement. The decision was made following an assessment of the epidemiological situation and consultations with public health experts and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

NCDC urged the public to remain vigilant for Ebola symptoms and seek medical attention when necessary. Preparatory activities are ongoing, and measures will be reviewed based on changes in the epidemiological situation.

The advisory was directed to various agencies, including the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Nigeria Immigration Service. NCDC had previously placed the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, and eight other states on high-risk alert due to an outbreak of Bundibugyo EVD in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
