Customs Agents Oppose Nigeria Customs Service's Proposed License Fee Increase

The National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA) has urged the Nigerian government to reconsider plans by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to increase license fees for clearing agents. The proposed fee hike is deemed contrary to international standards and could burden licensed agents with excessive renewal costs.

The NCMDLCA referenced Ghana's model of a consolidated fee structure as a more favorable approach. The association highlighted the financial strain on customs agents in Nigeria and emphasized the need for fair and reasonable licensing fees to align with global practices.

The petition, signed by the National President Lucky Amiwero, calls for a review of the planned fee increase to ensure a sustainable operating environment for customs agents.
