NCN Forms Committee for Nutrition Funding Structure in Nigeria

The National Council on Nutrition (NCN) has formed a committee to develop a funding structure for nutrition interventions in Nigeria, as announced by Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday. This initiative aims to address the financing gap in nutrition, with a commitment to ring-fence nutrition financing to ensure effective utilization of funds.

The committee is expected to present a financial roadmap within 30 days, which will be reviewed and adopted by the National Economic Council (NEC). Key members of the subcommittee include the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof.

Muhammad Ali Pate, along with other ministers from education, water resources, and agriculture. The Vice President emphasized the importance of establishing a strong legal framework for sustainable financing across sectors and urged state governors to take necessary actions to implement nutrition programs effectively.

The council also aims to ensure that women are central to nutrition efforts, recognizing their role in household nutrition and food systems.
