NCPWD and EU Join Forces Against Gender-Based Violence

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) and the European Union (EU) have formed a partnership to address sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) against persons with disabilities in Nigeria. Hon.

Ayuba Burki Gufwan, the Executive Secretary of NCPWD, made a commitment during a meeting with an EU delegation on June 18, 2026. The EU delegation, led by Melissa Omen, discussed the EU's SGBV program and its objectives to prevent and respond to SGBV through policy development and survivor support services.

The partnership aims to empower survivors, enhance service delivery, and promote a safer, more inclusive society for individuals regardless of their abilities. The collaboration will focus on addressing the unique challenges faced by persons with disabilities in accessing justice and support services.

The initiative is expected to strengthen advocacy and improve the overall response to SGBV in Nigeria.
