Nigerian Cancer Society Calls for Integration of Cancer Care into Primary Health System

The President of the Nigerian Cancer Society, Abidemi Omonisi, has called for the integration of cancer care into Nigeria's primary healthcare system to enhance prevention and treatment services. Omonisi emphasized the need for stronger integration to address gaps in cancer care, especially in rural communities and IDP camps.

The society aims to provide free cancer screening projects in underserved areas and deploy mobile cancer screening and treatment vans across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. Omonisi highlighted the importance of early detection, public education, research, and equitable access to quality cancer care.

The Nigerian government is urged to prioritize cancer control efforts, invest in healthcare infrastructure, and support cancer patients and survivors. The society's commitment to equitable cancer care, prevention, and early detection is emphasized to combat the misconception that cancer is a death sentence.

Omonisi outlined Nigeria's achievements in cancer control and called for sustained efforts at the national and sub-national levels to improve cancer diagnosis and treatment.
